re-(t)exHile | Oslo
Project by: Martinka Bobrikova & Oscar de Carmen together with María Alejandra Gatti Venue: Deichman Bjørvika Library, Oslo Presented by: KORO (Public Art Norway) in collaboration with Deichman Bjørvika Photography: Monika H. Kovačová
re-(t)exHile in Oslo marks one of the most extensive chapters of this ongoing artistic research project exploring global textile waste, displacement, and sustainability. Installed at Deichman Bjørvika Library from October 2025 to March 2026, the project engaged local communities across Oslo through collective sewing workshops and conversations about care, materiality, and belonging.
The Oslo chapter connected participants of diverse ages and backgrounds — including volunteers, students from KHiO, and multiple community groups — who contributed to the making of a large-scale textile installation. This collaborative process culminates in a performative and collective event at Oslo City Hall in March 2026, covering a 400m² floor area.
A highlight of this phase was the Oslo Gathering (17–18 October 2025), a two-day international symposium featuring artists, curators, and researchers such as Kwame Aidoo, Rodolfo Andaur, Adebola Badmus, Marium Durrani, Outi Pyy, Kallol Datta, Ingun Grimstad Klepp, Andrei Fernandez, Sunny Dolat. Moderated by Kwame Aidoo, the event fostered dialogue around sustainability, material circulation, and collective responsibility in the Global North.
re-(t)exHile in Oslo was made possible through the support of KORO (Public Art Norway), Deichman Bjørvika Library, and Fritt Ord.
